Burundi Mugirampeke is a strong, juicy coffee with aromas of red fruits, vanilla and lightly roasted white chocolate that is best appreciated in gentle extraction.
A product of northern Burundi, this coffee results from the labour of several small producers that work about 1 to 2 hectares of land each. As is the custom post-harvest, regional crops are consolidated for processing in a centralised washing station. Together with Kayanza, Ngozi is one of the region’s most represented coffees in the Cup of Excellence competition. In 2019, a coffee presented by the Mugirampeke site took 6th place out of 40 entries. A decade ago, Burundi, where Bourbon is the main variety produced, launched into the specialty coffee market. It has made constant progression since then and is now recognised for its acidulous aromatic profiles. Burundi specialty coffees are best enjoyed in gentle extraction.
