CHOICE OF TREE SPECIES
The reforestation project’s success is linked to the diversity of the species planted. One of the foresters’ main tasks is choosing the right varieties. The present forest population in Switzerland contains two large families of trees (leafy and coniferous) and shrubs, adapted to cold and temperate climates, planted in the open and in the mountains.
The main trees and shrubs planted in Switzerland
Trees:
Spruce, Fir, Sycamore maple, Chestnut, Douglas-fir, Plain maple, Country maple.
Shrubs:
Elderberry, Lantana viburnum, Cytisus, Bloodtwig dogwood, Fusain.
PROTECTION OF YOUNG SHOOTS
Young trees are protected against foul weather and damage from crawling insects and game to ensure they grow upright and achieve a firm grounding.
A SIGN AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE FOREST
Sustainable forests, funded by CoffeeAvenue, are designated with a sign at the entrance to each one, which explains the planting project’s goal and challenges. We present the different species of trees and shrubs planted as well as the forestry group responsible for its sustainable management.
