CoffeeAvenue is committed to reducing its environmental impact

CoffeeAvenue is a website that promotes alternatives for consuming coffee that emits less CO2 in a world where the capsule has no place. But we know that our deliveries and Internet activity inevitably generate CO2 emissions.

A carbon-free world thanks to trees

We dreamed of a world without capsules! We made it happen. Now, we want to implement an even stronger gesture for the planet, offset our greenhouse gas emissions by financing planting projects all over Switzerland.

The reforestation of Swiss forests is an eco-responsible alternative aimed at fully absorbing the CO 2 generated by our activity while improving air quality and promoting forest biodiversity in areas affected by climate change.

CoffeeAvenue funds 80% of the tree. The remain amount is covered by forest workers to finance the planting costs.

We are involved in forest monitoring and maintenance by being present on the day of, and by communicating before, during and after the planting of these young trees which will become future carbon sinks once they reach adulthood.

IT TAKES 20 YEARS FOR A TREE TO ABSORB 30KG OF CO2 PER YEAR.

Hence the need to plant young shoots today for future generations.

150kg of CO 2 absorbed
20 months of oxygen generated
15 animal shelters created
5m2 of nature reserve

CHOICE OF TREE SPECIES

The reforestation project’s success is linked to the diversity of the species planted. One of the foresters’ main tasks is choosing the right varieties. The present forest population in Switzerland contains two large families of trees (leafy and coniferous) and shrubs, adapted to cold and temperate climates, planted in the open and in the mountains.

The main trees and shrubs planted in Switzerland

Trees:
Spruce, Fir, Sycamore maple, Chestnut, Douglas-fir, Plain maple, Country maple.

Shrubs:
Elderberry, Lantana viburnum, Cytisus, Bloodtwig dogwood, Fusain.

PROTECTION OF YOUNG SHOOTS

Young trees are protected against foul weather and damage from crawling insects and game to ensure they grow upright and achieve a firm grounding.

A SIGN AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE FOREST

Sustainable forests, funded by CoffeeAvenue, are designated with a sign at the entrance to each one, which explains the planting project’s goal and challenges. We present the different species of trees and shrubs planted as well as the forestry group responsible for its sustainable management.

Why plant trees in Switzerland?

PROTECT THE FOREST

Controlling how trees grow and planting new ones protects the planet's green lung from forest fires, diseases (fungi, bark beetle, invasive species) and damage to forest fauna (deer, etc.). The forest acts as a buffer by absorbing large volumes of water, which it gradually redistributes. It thus limits flooding phenomena and the risk of erosion.

How to manage a forest sustainably?

A tree takes several years to anchor its roots firmly in the ground. For each one planted, the foresters protect the young shoots from damage caused by the wind and ensure that the trees flourish.

IMPROVE AIR QUALITY

Swiss forests, made up of leafy and coniferous trees, are essential for improving air quality. Trees boost the quality of the air we breathe by absorbing 100% of CO 2 and releasing it as O 2 . A tree can absorb CO 2 from the atmosphere using its stomata, small holes invisible to the naked eye, on the underside of a tree's leaves or needles.

PROMOTING BIODIVERSITY

Reforestation contributes to preserving biodiversity living in the forest thanks to the variety of the species planted. You can find up to 15 different species of trees and shrubs in a forest area! Reforestation is an essential operation in forestry (= sustainable forest management) because it promotes biodiversity in the forest (small mammals, birds, mushrooms).
