FAQ - Machine maintenance

Machine maintenance

What are the best practices for maintaining your espresso machine?

An espresso machine requires little maintenance to keep producing high-quality coffee. To help you, many have a red light that comes on when you need to remove any limescale that has built-up over time. In absence of the automated red light, refer to your machine’s user manual for further instructions.

Some also have a self-cleaning program. To avoid damaging your machine, do not attempt to clean it with white vinegar...

You can descale them with special gel and tablets, always respecting the product instructions.

You should clean the portafilter regularly. Also consider flushing the machine's group head, which means running a little water before placing the portafilter under the group.

We recommend cleaning the group head with each new kilo of coffee (about 150 cups), some are removable and others not, in this case the use of dedicated cleaning tablet is essential.

Don't forget the milk circuit! Poor maintenance of it could alter the taste of your cappuccino, and make you sick.

Why does my coffee maker get clogged with limescale?

Limescale forms more or less quickly depending on the hardness of your local water. The more limescale in the water, the faster it will build-up in your coffee machine.

During the heating process, the water deposits mineral particles on the walls of your coffee maker, those unsightly white deposit that you can see with the naked eye. It's a natural phenomenon that can be limited, but not completely prevented.

Fortunately, the consumption of limestone is not dangerous to your health, but it can seriously compromise the life of your machine. Not to mention that by hindering the flow of your coffee, the taste qualities of your favourite espresso drop at an alarming rate! It is therefore necessary to descale your machine regularly.

And in practical terms, how do I clean my coffee machine?

Espresso machine
Proper maintenance ensures optimal coffee quality and unquestionably extends the life of your automatic machine.

In fact, the overall cleanliness of the machine and its milk, coffee and water circuits play a role as crucial as its technical subtleties to ensure the device operates properly, providing you with perfect coffee everytime.

The filter cartridge delivers pure water, cleaning tablets ensure a spotless percolation unit, free of oily coffee residue, and rinsing the milk circuit washes out the pipes and eliminates any milk residue.

Filter coffee maker
Descaling can be done with a mixture of water and white vinegar (2/3 - 1/3) poured into the tank. Run the vinegar and water through and rinse the water reservoir and carafe with hot clear water. Finally, run clear water through the coffee maker three times to rinse it effectively.

Remember to clean your filter after each use to avoid wasting too much water!
