By darker roasting, Christoph conveys all the power of Leal in espresso with beautiful notes of caramel, chocolate and citrus.
The Ospina farm produces specialty coffees, grown in the remote mountains of Anserma, 200 km south of Medellin, in western Colombia. Amanda Ospina and her husband Horacio manage the farm, which they purchased from Horacio's brother in 1979.
During the main harvest season, the family employs four coffee pickers. Amanda recently invested in a small indoor drying facility in order not to be solely dependent on the dry seasons during long periods of rain.
As an alternative to coffee, Amanda and Horacio also grow bananas for additional income.
Legend has it that Amanda and Horacio used to store the bags of the best coffees in their bedroom, just in case…! Not unlike stashing our savings under the mattress. Leal means "faithful" in Spanish. So why the name Leal? Because Horizonte wants to faithfully relay to you the care taken in the production of these exceptional coffees.
